1.1.2 Thai traditional pharmacy covering the knowledge of Materia
medica, their tastes and medicinal properties, the art of the
formulation and the preparation of traditional medicines in various
dosage forms,
1.1.3 Nuad Thai or traditional Thai massage which is the major form
of manual therapy of TTM for the treatment and rehabilitative
purposes,
1.1.4 Thai traditional midwifery involving traditional antenatal care,
midwifery, postpartum care, as well as newborn care, and
1.1.5 Thai indigenous medicine, a part of local health wisdom and
community health care, of which the knowledge and practices
are unique and related to local traditional culture. The knowledge
of indigenous medicine has been transferred through direct
experiences with lessons learnt from a series of practice under a
specific culture.
1.2 The practice of applied Thai traditional medicine means the practice
of Thai traditional medicine, based on the knowledge of science and
medical science obtained from educational institutions accredited by the
Thai Traditional Medical Council (TTMC), as well as the application of
medical scientific equipment or devices in compliance with the rules and
regulations of TTMC.
As a result, healthcare professionals providing Thai traditional medicine services
in the health service system are licenced Thai traditional medicine practitioners and
applied Thai traditional medicine practitioners.
2. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) was legally recognised in 2009 as a
branch of the practice of the art of healing according to the Practice of the
Art of Healing Act B.E. 2542 (1999). Acupuncture is currently the only TCM
therapy provided in the public health service facilities where medical doctors
trained in acupuncture or TCM doctors are available.
3. Chiropractic was also recognised under the Practice of the Arts of Healing
Act B.E. 2542 (1999) since 2006; however, licenced chiropractors in Thailand
generally practice in private clinics, as chiropractic has no role in Thailand’s
Thailand
public health service system.
