alternative healthcare delivery system for the majority of people. However, traditional
medical systems have still not been integrated into the health delivery system and have
not been fully investigated.
6. National TM pharmacopoeias
Sri Lanka has 3 pharmacopoeias i.e., Ayurveda Pharmacopoeia, Siddha
Pharmacopoeia and Unani Pharmacopoeia. New pharmacopoeias have existed in progress.
Nearly 3000 monographs are available in Sri Lanka.
7. TM Education System
Three Government Ayurveda institutions affiliated with Universities for Ayurveda,
Siddha, and Unani graduated in BAMS, BSMS, and BUMS. Gampaha Wickramarachchi
University of indigenous medicine (GWUIM) which is the first Sri Lankan university
was established in March of 2021 for the Graduation of UG as well as PG education
in Sri Lanka. Post Graduate Institute of Indigenous Medicine (PGIIM) was established
for master’s under the guideline from NCISM in India in 2018. India has offered
scholarships for PG education for Sri Lankan students. Sri Lankan medical system is
enriched with a unique traditional medicine system, a compulsory learning part of
undergraduate education.
