Ayurveda Education and Hospital Board

                            The Ayurveda Education and Hospital Board is constituted under Section 22 (I)
                     of Ayurveda Act No. 31 of 1961 as amended by Ayurveda (Amendment) Law No. 7 of

                     1977 (25). In the original enactment  “Ayurveda medicine” was styled as one of its

                     principal functions. With the decision of the government to affiliate the college with the
                     University of Ceylon as one of its institutions, the board was relieved of its responsibility
                     for running the college.

                            This board is responsible for:

                            • Regulates undergraduate (UG) & postgraduate (PG) education in Sri Lanka.
                            • Conducts examinations and regulates certificate and diploma courses.
                            • Regulate Ayurveda educational institutes.

                            • Develop rules, regulations, and sops related to certificate and diploma courses.

                            • Develop standards for private Ayurveda educational institutes.

                     Ayurveda Research Committee

                            Section 33 (1) of  Ayurveda  Act No. 31 of 1961, as amended by  Ayurveda
                     (Amendment) Law No. 7 of 1977, provided for the appointment of an Ayurveda Research

                     Committee. The committee is in overall charge of directing and monitoring the progress

                     of all the research activities in the field of Ayurveda. It is responsible for the Pharmacopoeia
                     and Ayurveda Formulary Committee. The products, production, and services are regulated
                     by the Department of Ayurveda according to the Ayurveda code.




                     3.2  Regulatory System of traditional medicine product law and Licensing
                            Department  Ayurveda is the responsible body for the Register Pharmaceutical

                     and Ayurveda Products through the Formulary committee before Launching in the market.

                     None of the T&CM products are included in the National Essential Medicines list. The
                     Ayurveda formula committee  is  the regulatory body to oversee the  advertising and
                     labelling of T&CM products, regulate the T&CM products and productions through the

                     Ayurveda code.


                     Regulation of T&CM services

                            Ayurveda  code  for  services  under  the Ayurveda Act  makes  provision  to  register
                     Ayurveda wellness centres, private Dispensaries, Private Hospitals, and Ayurveda centres
                     in hotels and also has provision for monitoring and evaluation of the Ayurveda wellness

                     centres, private Dispensaries, Private Hospitals, and Ayurveda centres in the hotels.           Sri Lanka
