Groundbreaking ceremony of GCTM at Jamnagar, Gujarat
d. The WHO Global Centre for Traditional Medicine (GCTM) has a strategic
focus on evidence and learning, data and analytics, sustainability and equity,
and innovation and technology to optimise the contribution of traditional
medicine to global health and sustainable development. At the same time,
respect for local heritages, resources and rights is a guiding principle.
e. The WHO-GCTM would provide leadership on all global health matters
related to traditional medicine as well as extend support to member countries
in shaping various policies related to traditional medicine research, practices
and public health. The upcoming WHO-GCTM and various other initiatives
T raditional Medicine Systems of BIMSTEC Member States – 2023 Report
in collaboration with WHO will aid India in positioning traditional medicine
across the globe.
f. The first World Health Organisation Global Summit on Traditional Medicine,
organised by World Health Organisation, and co-hosted by Ministry of Ayush,
under the theme ‘Towards health and wellbeing for all’ was held in
Gandhinagar, Gujarat alongside the G20 health ministerial meet during

17 - 18 August 2023.
g. The Global Summit aimed to mobilise political commitment and evidence-
based action on traditional medicine, which is a first port of call for millions
of people worldwide to address their health and wellbeing needs.
h. The summit was inaugurated by Dr. Tedros Adhanom, Director General,
WHO in the presence of Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, Hon’ble Minister of
Ayush, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Hon’ble Minister of Health and Family
