The Act also includes articles involving the promotion of systematic and
comprehensive development of herbal products, making them safe, with quality standards
that meet international requirements. As a result, the value of exported Thai herbal
products to foreign countries is expected to increase in the future. The English version

9. National TM pharmacopoeias
The monographs of standard specifications of herbal materials and of selected
Thai traditional medicine preparations are prepared and published in two National
Pharmacopoeias, namely: -
1) Thai Herbal Pharmacopoeia (THP)
The Bureau of Drugs and Narcotics, Department of Medical Sciences is
responsible for the development of Thai Herbal Pharmacopoeia. The
Subcommittee on the Establishment of Thai Herbal Pharmacopoeia under
the Thai Pharmacopoeia Committee was appointed in 1989. Three more
specialised subcommittees were later appointed to facilitate the work of the
Subcommittee on the Establishment of Thai Herbal Pharmacopoeia, namely
Subcommittee on the Pharmacognostic and Botanical Specifications for Thai
Herbal Monographs, Subcommittee on the Physico-chemical Specifications
and Safety for Thai Herbal Monographs, and Subcommittee on Standards
for Thai Herbal Drug Preparations. Moreover, Subcommittee on Editorial
Style and Subcommittee on Standards and Analytical Methods also significantly
contributed to the preparation of THP.
