DURING FRENCH COLONIAL
French colonial involvement in Cambodia
dates from 1863 to 1954, although western medicine
was introduced to our people in the city and
provinces but traditional medicine still played
important role among Cambodia people.

DURING KHMER ROUGE
During the Khmer Rouge regime in the 1970s,
when western teachings were banned,
traditional remedies were the only medical care
available to the population.
AFTER FALLING OF KHMER ROUGE AND PRESENT
Following the fall of the regime in 1979, when those with knowledge of western
medical practices were either dead or had fled the country, traditional medicine was
formally encouraged by the Cambodian government.
The Center of Traditional Medicine (CTM) was established in 1982 under the
Ministry of Health. The role of CTM is very important at that period because the
