Community Medical Service in Sri Lanka:
Primary health care is delivered all over the country through community medical
service. Ayurveda community medical service was established in 2008 to strengthen
primary health care through traditional medicine. The government recruited Ayurveda
Community Health Medical officers (ACHMOs) for the Traditional sector. In the present
context, 1200 community medical officers (ACMOs) serve their duties in 9 provinces
of Sri Lanka.
ACHMOs are specially trained in the above-mentioned unique concepts of
traditional knowledge, and how to integrate those concepts when they deliver their
services.
