The uniqueness of the PHC through the traditional medicine system:
1. PHC via Traditional Medical System based on unique concepts and values.
It has a broader perspective on living practice. Primary health care in TM
is not merely external to the individual but something well integrated into
the typical living style of the Sri Lankans.
2. Incorporated with the two philosophical traditions.
Both the TM system and Buddhism contain within them the importance
of the concept of equilibrium as part of a South Asian philosophical tradition
that explores the whole process of achieving well-being through a middle
path.
3. Address the nutrition problems and implement a nutrition Plan through TM
always incorporated with Sri-Lankan traditional food culture.
The Sri Lankan TM system has been practised for the kitchen pharmacy
concept. The kitchen is rich in spices and condiments. The traditional kitchen
also used only clay pans and reed baskets with no toxicity and promoted a
dietary transition from an instant artificial Diet to a traditional diet.
4. Mental & Spiritual well-being through yoga and meditation
5. Person-centred customise Primary health care service
An approach to care that consciously adopts the perspectives of individuals,
families, and communities, and sees them as participants as well as beneficiaries
of trusted health systems that respond to their needs and preferences in
humane and holistic ways.
