Health care services are provided
free as enshrined in the Constitution of
Bhutan, where Traditional and allopathic
medicine services are integrated and
delivered under one roof. National
programmes are in place to address public
health issues and challenges. Its services
are made available through 80 TM Units
(1-National Traditional Medicine Hospital,
2-Regional Referral Hospitals, 7-Cluster Hospitals, 15-District Hospitals, 27-Ten Bedded
Hospitals, and 28-Primary Health Care Centres) established across the country manned
by 192 licenced Traditional Medicine Professionals.
6. Educational system
The Faculty of Traditional Medicine
is the sole faculty under the Khesar Gyalpo
University of Medical Sciences of Bhutan
responsible for the development of human
resources required for the delivery of quality
traditional medical services in the country.

The courses are recognised by the Bhutan
Medical and Health Council and the Royal
Civil Service Commission.
The faculty has been working towards designing, developing and delivering BTM
education programmes through a blend of rich ancient wisdom and modern science and
making it relevant to the current health needs of the people. Today it provides the
following courses including varied short courses.
• Short and tailored Courses
• Certificate course on TM Pharmacy
• Diploma in Bhutanese Traditional Medicine
• Bachelor of Bhutanese Traditional Medicine
• Master’s Degree in Traditional Medicine
