Best Practice of
Bangladesh
• In 1999, the then Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina first introduced the
recruitment of 30 Unani & Ayurvedic Medical Officers at District level
Government hospitals.
• In continuation of this process, in 2014, 2015, 2018 and 2020, 348 TM
Medical Officers have been recruited successfully.
• The present public-friendly Government thus keen to develop the Alternative
Medical Care Services along with the Allopathic system of medicine to ensure
quality, equitable & affordable health care for all citizens of Bangladesh.
Objectives of TM
To strengthen Unani & Ayurvedic Systems of Medicine along with the Allopathic
Medicine throughout the country to ensure quality and equitable health care for all
citizens of Bangladesh.
Development Strategy of TM
• Infrastructural Development in Health Care System: Government has appointed
Unani and Ayurvedic physician in government health centres along with
allopathic physician in the same infra-structure. Current total appointed TM
Manpower is 264 (Asst. Professor., Lecturer, Registrar, Asst. Registrar,
Radiologist, Production and Quality Control Officer, RP, RMO, IMO, MO.),
who are providing services in the Medical Colleges, and various Government
hospitals of different primary, secondary and tertiary level hospitals. Bangladesh
