• Initially Government of Bangladesh (GoB) had appointed medical officers

                                (Unani and Ayurvedic) in 30 districts, in course of time this service has increased
                                in different Medical College Hospital, UHC and District hospitals into 57

                                Districts of Bangladesh.



                      Strategy adopted to propagate TM in Bangladesh

                             • In the Field Based Strategies: Government has taken initiative to provide training
                                to gardeners for ensuring the process of raw materials identification, cultivation,

                                collection and the preservation. Government has also appointed 64 compounders
                                and 425 Herbal  Assistant (Gardener)  as ‘Support  Manpower’. The authority

                                also develops standard operating procedure (SOPs) of current Good
                                Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) for process, store or stock of raw or finished

                                materials or products.
                             • Manufacturing Unit Based Strategies: To ensure appropriate quantity of recipients

                                and the revalidation of the formulation, the GoB has prepared and published
                                Unani and  Ayurvedic Pharmacopeia, and  ‘National Formulary’, BNUF and

                                BNAF. All manufacturing companies are practicing the Bangladesh Unani and
                                Ayurvedic Pharmacopoeia/BNUF and BNAF to manufacture the drug which

                                is regulated by DGDA.
                             • Consumer Based Strategies: Unani and Ayurvedic medicines are manufactured

                                in our country; however, the quality of the drugs is monitored and maintained
                                by DGDA. Recently they have taken initiatives to sort Adverse drug reactions

                                (ADRs) from the different levels of consumers. They also have arranged training
                                for different stakeholders.

                             • Laboratory  Based  Strategies: All  the  products  are  certified  from  Drug Testing
                                Laboratory (DTL), under DGDA. Moreover, different public and private university

                                faculty members are working on different drugs and formulations.



                      National Policies on TM

                             • Traditional Systems of Medicine is included in the National Health Policy of
                                Bangladesh.

                             • Traditional Medicinal Products are also included in The National Drug Policy
                                of Bangladesh.
